Manufacturers Engage URA on Tax Policy Challenges in the Foam Sector.

31-01-2025: Earlier today, The Uganda Manufacturers Association Executive Director led a delegation of foam sector members to Uganda Revenue Authority for a crucial meeting on tax policy and administration challenges affecting the industry. The meeting, chaired by the Commisioner General Uganda Revenue Authority , focused on the remission of poly-cotton mattress covers under HS Code 5513.49.00.

Members raised concerns after receiving demand letters requiring them to pay remissions dating back to 2018 at a revised rate of 35%, a significant jump from the initial 10%.

In his remarks, Mr. John R. Musinguzi welcomed the delegation, acknowledged the foam sector’s contributions to the economy, and assured members of a productive discussion. He also emphasized URA’s commitment to ongoing engagement and pledged to hold quarterly meetings to address tax-related challenges in real-time.

We appreciate the commisioner and the entire @URAuganda team for taking the time to listen to manufacturers’ concerns and for their commitment to finding solutions that support industry growth.
