UMA Gives Back to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Through Marathon

Kampala 06th June 2024 – As part of her Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mandate, the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has unveiled the UMA marathon scheduled to take place on 15th June 2024 during the 13th Eastern Region Trade Fair (ERTF) in Mbale city.

While addressing the press, Mr. Eddie Ssenkumba, Chairman Communication, Marketing & Event Subcommittee UMA, noted that the proceeds from the 5km and 10km UMA marathon will be used to support Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

“Unlike previous trade fairs, the 13th ERTF will be launched with a marathon. We have partnered alongside several companies with similar interest in replenishing the hospital,” mentioned Ssenkumba.

In the same regard, Eurofoam Ltd, manufacturers of foam products will be donating 30 hospital mattresses to the different sections of the hospital as part of their annual mandate of giving back to the community.

“We provided over 200 mattresses to Ministry of Health during the Covid19 pandemic and much more to schools and orphanages. Therefore, Eurofoam is delighted to partner with UMA for such a good cause,” said Ms. Clare Kemigisha, Marketing Manager -Eurofoam.

Also in attendance, Ms. Fionah Nahabwe from East African Medical Vitals (EAMV) euphorically reiterated the company’s contribution of 30 cartons of medical gloves for the medical camp during the show and towards Mbale hospital.

Fire is an unforeseen and hazardous risk that threatens both businesses and people’s lives. Speaking at the media briefing, Ms. Monishaa Kothia, a Manager at Safe Pro Services Ltd delightedly noted that they will be donating fire extinguishers to the hospital.

Mr. Aloysius Ntambi -Public Relations Officer at Steel and Tube Industries, appreciated UMA’s initiatives in organising the Mbale trade fair by starting with a CSR activity. He called upon the public to attend and learn more about locally made products in Uganda.

Other partners represented included: Megha Industries contributing 20 hospital mattresses, One Dollar Initiative contributing condoms and free HIV/AIDS information during the fair Psalms Food Industries Ltd contributing snacks for the UMA Education Pavilion and Crown Beverages contributing soft drinks for participants of the marathon.

About the 13th UMA Eastern Region Trade Fair (ERTF):

The ERTF is a flagship regional business development event, attracting over 300 manufacturers, traders, and distributors from diverse business sectors and an average of 50,000 visitors from Mbale, Jinja, Soroti, Iganga, Tororo and surrounding areas.

This year’s trade fair theme, “Facilitating BUBU through Innovation and Value Addition” aims to highlight the role of science, technology and innovation to drive growth of locally made products.

The trade fair will run from 14th to 23rd June 2024 at Mbale S.S ground in Mbale city, with entrance fee of UGX 2000.
