The 31st Uganda International Trade Fair (UGITF) was officially launched on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, marking a significant milestone for Uganda’s manufacturing and industrial sectors. The event was officiated by Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Information, and graced by Eng. James Kalibbala, Chairperson of the National Standards Council, who served as the Guest of Honor.

Also in attendance were Mr. Deo JB Kayemba, former Chairman of the Uganda Manufacturers Association, along with a distinguished group of Managing Directors, CEOs, policymakers, and industry leaders. The launch underscored the scale, resilience, and potential of Uganda’s industrial base, while reaffirming the nation’s commitment to advancing its role on the global economic stage.
Held under the theme “Sustainable Industrialization for Inclusive Growth, Employment and Wealth Creation,” the 31st UITF stands out as more than just an exhibition. It is a transformative platform for manufacturers to showcase innovation, launch new products, and access international markets. With agriculture, science-driven manufacturing, and the made-in-Uganda e-commerce drive at its core, the fair signals a national shift from import dependence to global competitiveness.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Information, emphasized the centrality of manufacturing in Uganda’s growth journey:
“We have raised the bar of the show, such that it’s a reflection of the aspirations of Uganda. If a nation fails to promote and develop modern, affordable, high-quality manufacturing, then you can forget national development and transformation.”
This year’s fair places innovation at the forefront. Aga Sekalala Jr, UMA Board Chairperson, highlighted the uniqueness of this edition:
“All of our manufacturers have new innovations. They also have new products that they will be launching. We hope to have international stands, our Industrial educational pavilion stand back, and a strong agricultural pavilion showcase. So, there’s plenty to see and learn.”
For exhibitors, the UGITF is not only about sales it is about shaping Uganda’s economic future. The fair provides direct access to diverse markets, opportunities for real-time consumer feedback, and avenues for long-term partnerships. As Moses Byaruhanga, Venture Leader for the Made in Uganda initiative, explained:
“Our main goal is to find all the products manufactured in Uganda by artisans and production houses, and move them from being just local products to standing confidently on the global stage.”
Beyond commerce, the UGITF is a networking hub, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, potential investors, and entrepreneurs. Strategic collaborations and knowledge exchanges fostered here will drive continuous improvement, technology adoption, and resilience within Uganda’s manufacturing ecosystem.
The participation of key partners such as Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovate Information, Total Energies, Bank of Uganda, NIRA Uganda, MMI Steel, MTN Uganda, Unisteel , Crestanks, Hisense, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC), and the Ministry of Health further underscores the fair’s multi-sectoral importance and its role in national development.
At its heart, the UGITF embodies the spirit of “Uganda is not just making products, it’s making progress.” From ground breaking innovations to global ambitions, the 31st Uganda International Trade Fair is a call to celebrate Ugandan ingenuity and to invest in the nation’s industrial transformation.
In conclusion, this year’s trade fair is more than an annual event, it is a gateway. For Uganda’s manufacturers, it is a chance to lead in innovation, strengthen their brands, and expand market presence. For Uganda as a nation, it is a pivotal step toward economic self-reliance, resilience, and pride in the “Made in Uganda” brand.
