UMA Engages AJ Printing on Key Challenges in the Printing and Packaging Sector

by | Mar 6, 2026 | Communication

The Uganda Manufacturers Association today conducted an industry engagement visit to AJ Printing located in Namanve Industrial Park, as part of ongoing efforts to better understand and address challenges facing manufacturers in Uganda’s printing and packaging sector.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Association to interact directly with company representatives and discuss operational issues affecting productivity, competitiveness, and sector growth.

Among the key concerns raised during the engagement was the state of road infrastructure within and around the industrial park. Poor road conditions were highlighted as a major constraint, affecting the movement of raw materials and finished goods, increasing operational costs, and slowing down supply chain efficiency.

Another important issue discussed was the taxation framework affecting the printing and packaging industry. Stakeholders proposed consideration of taxes on final imported medical packaging materials as a measure to promote local manufacturing and create a more balanced competitive environment for domestic producers.

The discussions emphasized that strengthening the local printing and packaging industry requires coordinated efforts between industry players and policymakers. Addressing infrastructure gaps and aligning tax policies to support local value addition will play a crucial role in enhancing industrial competitiveness.

Through engagements like these, the Uganda Manufacturers Association continues to advocate for practical solutions that support manufacturers, strengthen supply chains, and promote sustainable growth within Uganda’s manufacturing sector.
