The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) recently hosted a comprehensive security management training at the UMA Multipurpose Hall from May 10th to 12th, 2023. The initiative aimed to equip individuals responsible for security management in organizations with essential strategies to enhance security awareness and safeguard valuable assets.

The workshop attracted participants from major manufacturing companies, including the Mukwano Group, Regal Paints, and Newline Feeds. Attendees engaged in valuable dialogues and workshops focused on crafting and implementing strategies to reinforce security measures.

Facilitated by Mr. Richard Nabudere, a renowned security management expert and managing partner at Bulwark Security Consultants Ltd, the training addressed crucial aspects of risk assessment, security audits, and the development of effective security policies.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in discussions and workshops centered on designing and implementing strategies to enhance security measures.

Additionally, the training provided guidance on conducting security audits and advising management on crucial security processes.

Key Topics Covered:

The training delved into various key topics essential for effective security management in the manufacturing sector. These included:

• Risk Management: Understanding the concept of risk management and its application in safeguarding organizations.
• Security Risk Assessment: Techniques for assessing security risks and vulnerabilities specific to manufacturing environments.
• Security Context Analysis: Analyzing the broader security landscape to better comprehend potential threats and challenges.
• Roles and Responsibilities of Private Security Officers: Defining the responsibilities and expectations of private security officers within manufacturing companies.

During the training, Mr. Nabudere stressed the significance of implementing robust security measures that ensure the protection of both company assets and staff. He emphasized the need for manufacturers to prioritize security in order to mitigate potential risks effectively. He also added that through investing in fully-fledged security protocols, manufacturers can safeguard their operations and foster a secure working environment.

Upcoming second phase of training:

Building on the success of the initial phase, the UMA has scheduled the next stage of the security management training for 14th to 16th June, 2023. The upcoming phase aims to address additional critical aspects of security management in the manufacturing sector.

Topics to be covered include the development of security policies and procedures, conducting security audits, designing physical security measures, and understanding the key elements of the Police Control of Private Security Organizations Regulations, 2013.

The UMA’s security management training underscores the importance of proactive security measures within the manufacturing sector.
