The world economy is currently grappling witht eh effects of the credit crunch. Uganda is no exception as every one has come to believe that the impact is likely to be grave if both government and the business community do not quickly develop coping mechanisms to the current recession. The immediate impact  of this recession on Ugandan Private businesses has been the escalation of the cost of operating businesses(i.e. sourcing of maerials, processing and marketing of our  products with in and outside the country. Many businesses are fallin gshort of export orders and are downsizing. For its part, URA has for the last couple of months posted severe revenue shortfalls.

The consequences of this recession on business and the economy are likely to be far reaching in terms of business survival, employement, tax revenues etc it mitigation efforts are not sought fast enough.

It is for this reason that Uganda Manufacturers Association and PSFU are jointly organizing a consultative meeting for Ugandan business community to be able to come up with concrete coping mechanisms for our businesses and recommendations for Government to intervene.

The consultative meeting shall be held on Thursday 9th April 2009 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at the UMA conference hall, Lugogo show grounds.
