Event title 2 Day Seminar - Tackling Debt Collection 23rd - 24th Apr 09
Where: Uganda Manufacturers Association Showground Lugogo - Kampala
Category: Training Events

Event description:
2 DAY SEMINAR ON TACKLING DEBT COLLECTION HASSLES AS A TEAM! Last year in April, we held a seminar on the above mentioned subject. The booking was over-whelming and we had to turn off some potential participants.  This seminar was designed for a maximum of 25 participants and ensured that results were obtained by sending the participants to try out with their client the techniques learned and then reported back the following day on the results which were discussed and critiqued. This year we are organising similar course!     There are several advantages which accrue to companies when they offer and properly manage credit. Benefits of credit include:- widening the market, customer retention, getting  rid of stock that might expire or get damaged and selling at higher prices. On the other hand companies must be cautious when offering credit as companies have lost huge sums of money through bad debts or delayed collections.  The purpose of this seminar therefore is to equip our members with practical collection skills for their staff to work collectively as a team so as to attain their expected targeted credit sales and yet realize a steady cash flow as well. The seminar is very practical and particularly important to the Ugandan business community which operates in a very poor debt culture..  Course ObjectivesBy the end of the seminar participants will be able to:
  • Collect successfully within the credit grace period.
  • Handle difficult debtors without losing them.
  • Identify the causes of delinquency and their solutions.
  • Acquire effective telephone collection techniques.
  • Acquire techniques of collecting institutional debtors (like ministries, companies, government).
  • Handle individual difficult debtors.
Course StyleThe seminar shall be divided into 4 major parts:1. A pre-training exerciseParticipants will be asked to draw a list of at least four cumbersome debtors of their company and a brief description of the efforts to collect the debt from them. They should come with that report in the seminar.  2. Class sessions on debt collection techniques This will be during the morning session of day one and the whole of day two. The session are highly participatory with a lot of experience sharing some of which are from the facilitators own experience. (see Program).   3.  Field visits and application of learned techniques In the afternoon session of day one participants will be asked to go and apply the debt collection techniques learned in the morning session. In case a participant does not achieve the expected output then discussions will be held to ascertain why and way forward on the second day. 4. Follow up sessionThe facilitator will make a follow up on the participants a month after the training to assess their performance and this will be at the company’s request in order to establish a collection strategy tailored to their needs.  Program

I would recommend all accountants; sales people and debt collectors attend this seminar. – Fernandez J.A Supervisor Microcare’.   ‘In the afternoon of the  first day of the course I went out to see a debtor my company  had written off and using the skills I had acquired that morning I was able  to get a post dated cheque – participant from ‘Statewide Insurance Company SWICO’  ‘I do not collect debts directly, but the course being practical and business oriented, it highly enriched my business and negotiation skills. The course is good for any one involved in business– Farncesca Mirembe Assistant Supervisor (SWICO) ‘Sure the course was very useful...I Baganda Winnie-Assistant Manager Imports- Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited( SCOUL)-  ‘I Now push for written commitments on payment dates whenever I am dealing with any one on credit terms. Before visiting the debtor to collect the money, I first make telephone calls. This approach has enabled me to collect 80% of the would be bad debts.  - Achintra Mistra, Finance Manager Rwenzori Bevarages Limited. The course was very beneficial. Today the company does not have as many debtors as  it had before we attended the course. If you are organising a similar course inform us so that we can send more participants.
